Yard Waste

Fall 2019 Loose Leaf and Yard Waste Collection Information

The City of Green Bay Public Works Department began the Fall 2019 Loose Leaf and Yard Waste Collection on Monday, October 14, 2019.

Full details of the Fall 2019 Collection can be found in this press release.

We are still bulking leaves on both the east and west sides of the City with as many pan trucks and tractors out in the routes as we have available. The deadline to have your leaves at the curb, weather dependent, was Sunday, November 17, 2019.

The Department of Public Works has been monitoring weather and road conditions, in addition to weather forecasts, and as a result of the significant snowfall (2.9 inches) on 11/13/19, DPW wishes to update all Green Bay residents of its plan to continue fall curbside leaf collection.

Following is a summary of that plan:

  1. Weather permitting, DPW will continue to collect leaves at the curb through Friday, November 22. This is the Friday before Thanksgiving week, which historically marks the end of collection.
  2. However, weather permitting, during Thanksgiving week (November 25 to 29), DPW will continue collecting leaves at the curb.
  3. DPW will work overtime to keep the leaf collection process moving forward.
  4. If DPW can see leaves at the curb for collection, they will be collected even if spread along the curb and across driveway aprons, but residents are still instructed not to deposit leaves or yard waste in the street.
  5. The collection process will be slower due to loss of trucks that have been converted from leaf collection to winter duty.
  6. Street sweepers cannot be used on snow and ice, so streets will look messier than normal after leaf collection.
  7. Also unfortunately, smaller piles of leaves that are buried under the snow may be missed.

At this time, DPW can provide no promise or assurance of December curbside collection service. Conditions will be evaluated to determine if collection will occur into December.

DPW thanks Green Bay residents for their cooperation in helping us perform this collection in a timely manner in order to better our City and prepare for winter!

Please see the charts below for a status on the 2019 Fall Loose Leaf and Yard Waste Collection on both the west and east sides of the City. The charts are organized by your garbage collection day and display the day the round of collection began in your area and the percentage complete for that round.

Public Works crews try to collect with all available equipment units (tractors, sweepers, loaders, pan trucks, baler, etc.) and most years complete six (6) rounds through each neighborhood, one (1) round per week. Of course this schedule is also weather dependent as equipment must be changed over to be prepared for winter snow removal.

For ease of collection, we ask that all leaves, sticks, and yard waste are placed away from obstructing objects (trees, mailboxes, power poles, etc.) and be separated if possible. Raking as early as possible eliminates leaves in our streets and curb lines. Excess leaves in these areas ultimately end up in our storm sewer and further the problem of extra nutrients and algae blooms in our waterways. Additional information on fall leaf collection can be found here in the Public Works 2019 Information Guide.

Yard waste left at the curb outside of the City’s special yard waste collection rotations is subject to citations and fines.

Residents may call the Department of Public Works Operations Division Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at (920) 448-3535 with any questions.
